My inspiration
The inspiration for my short film came from the idea that home is more that just a physical place but a feeling. Moving away from family and living by yourself can create negative feelings of loneliness and isolation, especially when are are surrounded with an unfamiliar environment. I wanted to explore the small thing in your home that go unnoticed such as memories, personal belonging, routines, music, and connections with others can make a place where you reside feel like a home. The film focuses on finding a balance between independence and maintaining meaningful relationships explaining that a home is created through love, memories and experiences we carry with us.
behind the camera
Behind the camera, I wanted to create a warm and personal atmosphere that reflected my emotional journey. I used different shots and camera angles to show both the physical environment and my emotions. At the beginning, I focused on creating a sense of emptiness and loneliness, while later shots became warmer and more comforting as I began to find a sense of home. I also considered lighting, composition and sound to help communicate emotions without relying entirely on dialogue. This film allowed me to experiment creatively and understand how technical decisions can influence the audience’s interpretation of a story.
Challenges faced
One of the main challenges I faced while creating the short film was communicating the feeling of loneliness without making the film feel overly dramatic. I wanted the story to feel realistic and relatable, so I focused on showing everyday moments and small details rather than directly explaining the character’s emotions. Another challenge was balancing the creative ideas I had with the practical limitations of filming, including finding suitable locations, organising shots and creating the right atmosphere. I also had to adapt some of my original ideas during production. These challenges helped me become more flexible and taught me that creative projects often require problem-solving and experimentation.
